5 Card Stud Poker

5 Card Stud Poker is one of the oldest poker game around, and although it isn't as popular as games such as Texas Hold Em or video poker it can still be found in all of our featured poker sites.

You can play it on a one to one basis with just one other opponent or on a multiplayer table with up to 8 players.

The game follows the standard poker game play with an Ante being required to be placed on the table, however on small stake games such as $0.50/$1.00 there is no requirement for an Ante wager.

Once this Ante wager has been placed then the game begins with all players being dealt two cards, one of which is face down and one face up.

The player who is showing the lowest face-up card by suit starts the betting with what is termed a bring-in bet which is always half the lower full bet.

The remaining players can then either fold, call or raise the amount to a full bet.

Next the game moves onto the second round where another card is then dealt, to all players this card is dealt face up. Another round of betting follows with the player who has the highest combination of cards has to act first and he or she is permitted to either bet or check.

In the event of two players having equal cards, then the one nearest the dealer's left acts first. Should one of the players be showing a pair, any player may then choose to bet at the higher limit and therefore all subsequent calls and raises must be at the higher limit.

Next will follow the third round and as you may have already guessed yet another card will be dealt, face up, to all players at the table.

Once again the remaining players have another betting round begins and the player who has the highest combination of cards showing bets first. These bets are all at the higher limit.

The Fourth round follows and all the cards that are remaining to be dealt are dealt, one down and four up to each active player, a final round of betting begins. When the betting is completed all the players show their hole cards and the highest five-card hand wins the pot.
